'Power Your Way' Offers Choices for Electric and Gas Customers
|
New York -- With today's growing interest in energy issues, now is a good opportunity to re-explore the various power supply choices that are available through energy services companies (ESCOs). Power YOUR Way, is the program that allows customers to choose their own gas and electric suppliers. With energy supply costs representing more than 50 percent of a customer's energy bill, now is the time to shop and save. Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. recently included a Power YOUR Way brochure in billing statements to help residential and small business customers make an ESCO choice. The brochure lists ESCOs that have fixed and variable energy pricing and other services designed to suit customer needs. This information is also available at www.coned http://www.coned.com and on an automated information line at 1-800-780-2884. "No matter which energy supplier you choose, Con Edison will still deliver the energy in a safe and reliable manner as always," said Marilyn Caselli, Con Edison vice president, Customer Operations. "Power YOUR Way will help customers make informed choices that may impact the bottom line on their energy bills." Through deregulation, the gas and electric energy marketplace was opened to competition, enabling customers to shop around for energy from other suppliers. Gas customers in New York City and Westchester County were first introduced to ESCOs in 1996, and electric customers began choosing ESCOs in 1998. Since then these new changes in the marketplace have allowed nearly 100,000 customers to choose different energy suppliers. Con Edison, the most reliable electric utility in the United States, continues to deliver the energy directly to consumers. Customers who are interested in changing their energy suppliers may sign up with an ESCO in the Power YOUR Way program at any time. Power YOUR Way advertisements will soon appear in newspapers and on radio stations to inform customers further about the benefits of choosing an ESCO. Customers curious about ESCOs will get a major league look at Power YOUR Way on July 2 at 7:30 p.m. during a minor league baseball game between the Staten Island Yankees and the Vermont Expos. Fans will have chances to win prizes, participate in contests and speak directly to ESCO representatives serving the New York area. The Power YOUR Way night event is open to the public. The new Staten Island Yankee stadium is located at 75 Richmond Terrace, near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. [NYSE: ED], one of the nation's largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $10 billion in annual revenues and $16 billion in assets. The utility provides electric, gas and steam service to more than three million customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York.
