Con Edison Names New Board Member

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison) announced today the election of Vincent A. Calarco, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Crompton Corp., to the Board of Directors of Consolidated Edison, Inc. and to the Board of Trustees of its subsidiary, Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. He was elected at the Board's September 20 meeting.

"Vincent Calarco's experience in the business community and his financial expertise will make him a valuable addition to our Board. Being a native New Yorker, his intimate knowledge of our service area and its people will benefit our customers, our shareholders and our employees," said Eugene R. McGrath, chairman and CEO of Con Edison.

Since 1986, Calarco has been chairman of Crompton Corp. of Greenwich, Conn. He was named president and CEO in 1985. Crompton is a global manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals, polymer products and equipment with sales in 120 countries. Calarco is vice chairman of the Chemical Heritage Foundation and past chairman of the Chemical Manufacturers Association.

Calarco also had held management positions at Procter & Gamble, NL Industries and Uniroyal.

A native of Staten Island, Calarco earned an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Polytechnic University where he serves on the New York school's advisory board. He is also a veteran of the United States Army.

Calarco and his wife, Linda, live in Woodbridge, Conn. They have two grown sons.
