Con Edison Appoints Vice Presidents of Gas Operations, Gas Engineering, and Emergency Management

NEW YORK, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Con Edison (NYSE: ED) has appointed Thomas Newell vice president of Gas Operations; David Davidowitz vice president of Gas Engineering; and George Greenwood vice president of Emergency Management. The executive appointments were announced by Con Edison's Board of Directors at a November 16 meeting and will be effective December 1, 2000. Newell joined Con Edison in 1980 as an operating supervisor for Queens Gas Operations. Since then, he has held other positions, including field engineer for Queens Gas Operations, design engineer for Central Gas Operations, section manager for major projects for Gas Operations, department manager for Steam Operations, and general manager for Manhattan Gas Operations. In his capacity as vice president of Gas Operations, Newell will oversee the Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Westchester and Van Nest Control Room. Other responsibilities will include maintenance and construction of the distribution system in Manhattan, Bronx, Queens and Westchester. He is a member of the American Gas Association, the Society of Gas Operators, the Municipal Art Society and the Manhattan Institute. He holds a BE in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College, and an MBA in Finance from St. John's University. Newell lives on Manhattan's Upper East Side with his wife Lisa. Davidowitz joined Con Edison in 1968 and has held various positions in Gas Operations, including chief gas engineer; general manager of Gas Environmental, Health and Safety; general manager of Gas Technical Operations, and general manager of Manhattan Gas Operations. In his new position, Davidowitz will be in charge of Gas Engineering, Gas Environmental Health and Safety, Gas Technical Operations and Gas Quality Assurance. Former director of the Northeast Gas Distribution Council, Davidowitz has also served on several committees of the American Gas Association. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Gas Operators. Davidowitz holds BSME and MSME degrees from Columbia University. He lives in Marlboro Township in New Jersey, with his wife Judy. Overseeing one of the largest gas systems in the country, Gas Operations serves more than 1 million customers in Manhattan, the Bronx, and parts of Queens and Westchester. Greenwood joined Con Edison in 1964 and has held the positions of director of Environmental Health and Safety; general manager of Manhattan Gas Operations; general manager of Queens Gas Operations; and general manager of Bronx Administration. Greenwood will be in charge of coordination of all Emergency Management operations. He has an Electrical Engineering degree from the New York Institute of Technology and an MBA from Adelphi University. He lives in Franklin Square, Long Island, with his wife Kathleen. He has two sons, Richard and Robert, and a daughter, Patricia. ``George's broad experience in operations and EH&S makes him uniquely qualified to serve as Con Edison's point person in Emergency Management,'' said Kevin Burke, president of Con Edison Company of New York. ``His reputation with city and state agencies will be an asset in coordinating operations that protect all New Yorkers.'' Emergency Management also acts as a liaison between the Company and the appropriate city and state agencies involved in Emergency Preparedness.
