NEW YORK, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Consolidated Edison, Inc. is dispatching 29 crews from its two utilities to assist National Grid, the upstate utility with headquarters in London, England, to help restore electricity to the more than a quarter-of-a-million customers who are without power. A rare, mid-October snowstorm dumped two feet of wet snow on western New York and toppled trees and power lines.

Con Edison of New York is sending 21 two-man, bucket-truck crews from New York City and Westchester County, and Orange and Rockland Utilities is sending eight two-man crews -- all specialists in overhead electrical systems -- who will be working to bring back the power to the Buffalo area.

In addition, the company is sending pole-setting equipment, mechanics, safety, and supervisory personnel to support the crews in their restoration effort. The team is leaving tonight and is expected to arrive in Buffalo tomorrow.
