Burke Named President of Consolidated Edison of NY; Other Executive Appointments Announced

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Kevin Burke, 49, was today named President of Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) (NYSE: ED), announced Eugene R. McGrath, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Edison, Inc. Mr. Burke is currently the President of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., (O&R), also a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., where he has served since July of 1999. During his tenure, Mr. Burke began the successful integration of O&R into the Con Edison family of companies. Before joining Orange and Rockland, Mr. Burke was the senior vice president responsible for Con Edison's electric transmission and distribution systems and as well as customer service. Having been with the company for 27 years, he has served as Vice President of Corporate Planning, Vice President, Vice President of Brooklyn Customer Service and Vice President of Construction. "Mr. Burke has had a long and successful career at Con Edison," said Mr. McGrath. "His record of achievement in providing customer service and reliability is outstanding. Mr. Burke holds a M.S. in Business Policy from Columbia University, a J.D. from Fordham University, a M.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a B.E. from Cooper Union. He is on the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Services as well as Dominican College and the Rockland County Economic Development Corporation. He resides in Westchester with his wife and two children. Mr. Burke's appointment follows the retirement from Con Edison of J. Michael Evans who served as President and Chief Operating Officer since 1998. Mr. Evans joined Con Edison in 1991 and has served in the positions of Executive Vice President of Customer Service and of Central Operations. Throughout my career, I have always sought new challenges which I have found to bring great opportunity." Steve Bram was named President of Orange and Rockland. Currently, Mr. Bram is the Senior Vice President of Central Operations. His responsibilities include management of the world's largest steam system, which provides energy to many of Manhattan's largest commercial office towers. He is responsible for system and transmission operations, substation operations and maintenance and construction services. His portfolio also includes management of the company's electric energy purchases. He joined Con Edison in 1963 and has also held the positions of Vice President of Nuclear Power, Vice President of Fossil Power and Vice President of System and Transmission Operations. Mr. Bram holds a M.B.A. from New York University and a BSEE from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He serves on the Board of the Volunteers of America of Greater New York and works extensively with the Energy Association's Executive Committee. Mr. Bram resides in New Jersey with his wife and has two children. "O&R's customers will be well served by Mr. Bram who understands the changing energy marketplace," said Eugene R. McGrath. Mr. Tai is currently the Vice President of Corporate Planning and has been an integral part of the development of Con Edison's corporate strategy. Joining the company in 1970, Mr. Tai held the position of Chief Engineer, Chief Forecast Engineer and Chief Generation Planning Engineer. Mr. Tai has a J.D. from NY Law School and a M.S. from Columbia University. He earned his B.S.Ch.E. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Tai is a Rockefeller Fellow. He resides in New Jersey with his wife and has two children. "Mr. Tai's leadership of Corporate Planning has allowed him to be involved in all facets of our business," said Eugene R. McGrath. "His understanding of the wholesale energy supply business and his engineering skills are critical in today's energy industry."
